When I was 14 I made a promise to my Mom. "I'll Be There For You"
My mother recently had breast cancer, fought and beat it after a turbulent two year battle.
She was diagnosed only a couple weeks after I had just moved to New York City. Even while going through her many set backs and treatments in the process of overcoming cancer she encouraged me not to worry about her and stay in New York and follow my dreams. She is selfless.
While talking to me she always kept a positive attitude. She would hide her frustration at having an illness she could not control. She'd hide her fear of disappearing before meeting her grandchildren. (I had never met my Mom's mom because she passed away from cancer before I was born. I can't imagine how close to home this hit for her) She went on with her life accepting what was and continued to be the person and Mother she was to me. Nothing ever changed.
I remember during one of her first surgeries she FORCED me to stay in NYC so I wouldn't miss a gig. I felt like I had broken my promise to her. I still feel guilty. This is one of the only times I can say, "im sorry I listened to you, Mom."
My Mom and I talk almost everyday. She is my best friend. She is my biggest fan. My greatest supporter. And she's taught me more about strength, acceptance, and kindness than anyone.
Mom, I will sing you this song on all of your birthdays. I will sing you this song on all of your sad days. I will sing you this song on all of your old and wrinkly and probably can't even hear it days. And now this song will be sung for all women fighting the battle of their lives because of you.
I love you mom. I will never break my promise to you again.
I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU
In honor and in celebration of you BEATING breast cancer. Every time someone purchases this song, ALL of the proceeds will go to Stand Up To Cancer.
Love your son,
Evan
lyrics
I still turn to you for comfort
Always a shoulder I can lean
Care for me always
You're like a flower I've once seen
Beautiful is an understatement
Because your personality shines
You always make me happy
Somehow deep down inside
And ill always be there for you
You were there for me
Someday you'll see
I'll be there for you
Through thick and thin
We'll begin to share
The memories we've had
Long after the time
I've moved out of the house
I watched you when you were sick
You never let me see you cry
You only ever asked about me
And if I was alright
You told me that in life
Only three things worth a care
Health, family, happiness
The rest just isn't there
And ill always be there for you
You were there for me
Someday you'll see
I'll be there for you
Through thick and thin
We'll begin to share
The memories we've had
long after the time
I moved out of the house
